The location of a port in a subwoofer enclosure to change anything?

I'm getting ready to order my subwoofers that will be two 12 "alpine type R (2 ohms), and am having trouble deciding which box to buy. I see boxes of different websites and ebay with the port sometimes in the middle, sometimes below the subs, and sometimes next to the subs? Is it matter where the port is situated in a compound? and if you own two alpine type R is what is fair and I recommend it?

Read the instructions that come with the speakers ... Search the specifications of the box. Some people say that the greater better, but if you do your supermarket for the speakers sound "muddy"
