Sub Enclosure
By adminSub Enclosure
Is it possible to put stuff in a sub enclosure to reduce its volume?
I calculated the volume of my box, and got a number thats over what my subs prefer for a non ported box. In the conquest for better sound, are there any reasonable solutions to reducing the internal volume by adding say...Packing peanuts or kittens?
Volume as in internal space, like leiters, not volume as in db. Just to clarify.
Unless the enclosure is vastly larger than specification, the sound quality may actually be improved as well as an increase in spl. Try acoustic dampening mats, dynamat or even pieces of MDF acting as additional bracing. These will reduce enclosure resonance and "clear" up the noise. Also, the volume your driver displaces must be subracted from the enclosure volume. Hope this helps.

Among the numerous technologies developed for large screen television, three of them which gained much hump are the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), Plasma Display (PDP) and Digital Light Processing (DLP). These technologies have made the CRT display obsolete, the main reason being the size of a CRT display. A bigger cathode ray tube is required to create bigger displays and thus a CRT display bigger than about 40 inches is unrealistic in television size. This is the main reason the aforementioned technologies have gained much support from television companies and have also entered the homes of customers, due to great viewing experience. However, recently released technologies like Organic Light-emitting Diode (OLED) and yet-to-be released technologies like Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display (SED) are set to replace the first flat screen technologies in terms of picture quality.
The major factors that affect the picture quality in a large screen television are given below.
- Display size which means the diagonal length of the television screen.
- The display resolution refers to the pixel count in every dimension of the screen. Higher the count, sharper the image.
- Dot pitch refers to the size of the pixel. This has to be small to yield clearer and sharper pictures.
- Response time is the time taken by the pixel to change its color from black to white and then again to black. Faster response time gives a crisp image with no unwanted image artifacts on blurs which develop when the response time is small.
- Brightness is the amount of light emitted by the display and contrast ratio is the ratio the brightest color to the darkest color. Generally a high contrast ratio is required to give better displays.
- Aspect ratio is the ratio of the screen width to the screen height. Traditional television screens had a ratio of 4:3 which is being phased out and 16:9 ratio has become the norm for large screen televisions.
- Viewing angle is the maximum angle at which a person can view the picture clearly. It is measured from one end to the other and the maximum angle is 180 degrees.
Let us look at three most promising large screen technologies.
The LCD:
Each pixel on the LCD consists of many layers of portions, which are 2 polarizing filters, 2 glass plates with electrodes and liquid crystal molecule which make up the major part. These crystals are sandwiched between the glass sheets and are in contact with the electrodes which supply voltage. The two polarizing filter, one of which is horizontally inclined and the other is vertically inclined, form the outer portion of the screen. These crystals have a special feature which makes them react in a specific way to temperature and electric current which makes them to twist or rotate about a specific direction depending upon the intensity of the causing factor. In the natural state, the crystals are twisted in such a way that the light is allowed to pass through the two filters. Upon applying electric current the filters turn in such a way that the amount of light passing through the filters vary and thus produced varying intensities of light. For a color television each pixel is formed by three sub pixels for each primary color. Thus varying intensities of current to each sub-pixel determines the color and the sharpness of the light emitted by the pixel.
Plasma Display:
The plasma television display is made up of thousands of cells filled with gas (mainly xenon and neon) which are sandwiched in between 2 glass plates, 2 sets of electrodes, a dielectric material and a protective layer. This assembly is in the rear side of the display with the protective layer directly in contact with the cells. The address electrodes are vertically arranged between the rear glass plate and the protective layer. The front side of the display hosts the horizontal display electrodes sandwiched in between the magnesium-oxide protective layer and an insulating dielectric layer. Each cell is separated by a wall so that one cell does not affect the activity of the other cell. When voltage is applied t the cells, the gas inside gets ionized and emit UV photons which interact with the phosphor coating on the inner side of the cell and excite the electrons in them. These electrons come down to a lower energy level and release the excess energy as light. To create a color display every pixel has 3 sub pixels where each one is covered by a red phosphor, a green phosphor and a blue phosphor. These interactions produce the desired color light.
These technologies have their own advantages and disadvantages. A thorough check, of the product and the promise that the company offers, gives us the best choice.

im thinkin about gettin a Kenwood Amplifier and 2 Subwoofers with Q-Logic Sub Enclosure,is this a good system?
this product costs 300 dollars for the two 12 inch subwoofers, with the box, and a 1000 peak output @ 4 ohms amplifier.
Is this a good system?
make sure the subs are either 8 ohms or have dual 4 ohm voice coils otherwise you'll never get the impedences to match.
Other than that I can't tell you much. Othe helpfull info would be ported vs. sealed box? RMS power output of amp (much more important than peak power) RMS power handling of subs, and type of sound you want.
A 1000 peak amp will RMS at 500 Watts at most. That's 250W per 12" sub, which is not a lot. With a sealed box, this will make a very muddy muffled sound that will only be loud near the boxes resonant frequency. With a ported box, you will get something more usable, as there will be a resonance for the box, and one for the port, giving a broader frequency response.
Honestly, if the power is 500W RMS as I suspect, I'd run 10's instead of 12's if you want it to have any sort of respectable hit to it.
