Why is my subwoofer not hitting as hard?

I have one 10' kicker solobaric L5 in a ported truck box on a directed 250. This bad boy slams pretty hard. Here's the thing...Lately it seems to have been hitting, but just not hitting as hard as it used to. If I turn the gain up on my amp it sounds fine. I used to have my gain on about 8 o clock. (6 being the lowest) but now I have it on about 10 and it sounds the same as it did before. I'm just wondering, why is that? Why did it hit hard before but now I had to turn my gain up? I don't know too much about subs. I just don't understand why that is. I have the suspicion that one of my voice coils is blown (but I already knew that months ago) But other than that, it sounded fine. Anyways, What's up with my speaker?

The power cable to the battery could be compromised somewhere, corrosion on a terminal etc. Or the Final Amps in the amplifier have been overheated.
