Can I use a pair of 8 ohm speakers and a pair of 16 ohm speakers on my receiver?

The manual says to use 16 ohm speakers when using 2 pairs of speakers, but I already have a 8 ohm pair of pioneer speaker. Could I just use a pair of 16 ohm speakers with those? The reciever is a 210 watt sherwood rx-4109.

You can use them but they won't be used to their full capacity.
Nothing bad will happen..

Category 7 cable (Cat 7), (ISO/IEC 11801:2002 category 7/class F), is a cable standard for Ethernet and other interconnect technologies that can be made to be backwards compatible with traditional Cat 5 and Cat 6 Ethernet cable. Cat 7 features even more strict specifications for crosstalk and system noise than Cat 6. To achieve this, shielding has been added for individual wire pairs and the cable as a whole.
The Cat 7 cable standard has been created to allow 10 gigabit Ethernet over 100m of copper cabling (also, 10-Gbit/s Ethernet now is typically run on Cat 6a). The cable contains four twisted copper wire pairs, just like the earlier standards. Cat 7 can be terminated either with 8P8C compatible GG45 electrical connectors which incorporate the 8P8C standard or with TERA connectors. When combined with GG45 or TERA connectors, Cat 7 cable is rated for transmission frequencies of up to 600MHz.

Category 7a (or Augmented Category 7) operates at frequencies up to 1000 MHz, suitable for multiple applications in a single cable including 40 Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Gigabit Ethernet, and CATV (862 MHz). Simulation results have shown that 40 Gigabit Ethernet is possible at 50 meters and 100 Gigabit Ethernet is possible at 15 meters. Mohsen Kavehrad and researchers at Pennsylvania State University believe that either 32 nm or 22 nm circuits will allow for 100 Gigabit Ethernet at 100 meters.

Will I endanger my 8 Ohm speakers OR the 6 Ohm microsystem I'm connecting it to? (It came w/6 Ohm speakers.)?

I have a Phillips "microsystem" stereo whose sound I hate. It came with 6 Ohm speakers.

I also have a pair of 8 Ohm Sony speakers that came with a different, better microsystem. I want to know if it's safe for both the Sony speakers AND the Phillips unit if I chuck the Phillips 6 Ohm speakers and connect the Sony 8 Ohm pair. Will I damage the Sony speakers, or the Phillips unit, or both? Thanks!

Yes, it's safe.

When in doubt, plug into a higher impedance, and you're safe... when you can't match, that is.

So ideally 6 ohm should go to 6 ohm... that means 100% of the power is transmitted. If 6 ohms goes into a higher number ohms, less than 100% of the power will be transmitted. If 6 ohms goes into a *lower* number, then the amp will try and deliver more than its rated wattage, and you'll damage something.

You may or may not notice a drop in volume - since the other speakers are higher quality, they may have a higher sensitivity, which is one of the important factors in overall volume.
