Help with Subwoofer? 5.1 into mono?

Ok so here's the deal. I have a receiver that's about 15 years old with Dolby Pro Logic 5.1, but it has no subwoofer out. It does have line level outputs for each section of the system. There are Left and Right channels of the front, center and rear speakers. With the front speakers, there's a pre-out and main in, so they won't work unless the signal is coming back to the main in.

I think what you do on those is you feed the line out from both channels to the sub and then main in back to the front speakers that way the crossover in the sub filters the signal sending the bass notes to the sub abnd the rest back to the front left and right....this is why subs have speaker in and out...for situations like this. If it doesn't work try right and left in at speaker level and then attach the speakers to the subs speaker out.
