It consumes energy much less than normal CRT monitor, both when running and also when in standby mode. Overall, LCDs can reduce display energy use by some 60%. Studies show that a 15" LCD uses around 25 watts when in operation and around 3 watts when in standby mode, compared with an equivalent 17" CRT monitor that uses 80 watts when in operation and 5 watts in standby mode. LCD screens can also recover from standby mode faster than CRTs and even consume less power. The uniform brightness of an LCD screen means that the screen can better tolerate variations in light levels and reductions in lighting also saves energy.

As you can see, there is no reason not to get a brighter, larger LCD monitor. The most common size of LCD monitor for computer use is probably the 19 inch LCD monitor, but for graphic designer they may demand a bigger one. But before you make your purchase, you should get yourself familiar with what you should look for when selecting a 19 inch widescreen monitor.
