Help me decide what i should do about my amp problem?
I drive an 08 kia optima and ive got a factory stereo with a converter on it for RCA jacks. So the problem is I have a Sony Xplod 800watt amp hooked up to my stereo. But the amp never goes off b/c I believe the remote wire never goes off, so the amp never goes off when the car goes off. So I'm wondering if I should attach a switch to the remote wire of the amp? or should I just replace the factory CD player with a new one? or find out if the remote wire goes to a constant powered fuse and replace it with a fuse that goes off when the car does? any ideas anyone?
The reason for this question is b/c the Sony Xplod amp has blue LEDs on it when its on. So since the amp is always on it kills my battery, since the car isnt on and the alternator isnt running producing power.
first, led's don't draw much amperage. it is the amp that is drawing all of the power and killing your batter.
second, no matter what... yeah, replace your c.d. player. the rca converter is going to actually give you pretty poor sound quality, every extra connection you make between your stereo and your amp... or your amp and your speakers is going to cost you a little more sound quality. you lose wattage by increasing resistance by adding extra connections and converters.
and finally, NO! do not install a power switch to your amp! i'm assuming that you are not super savy with electrical so i'll tell you this: if you don't know what you are doing, intalling a switch on the power wire can cause HUGE problems. all switches should be run through a fuse and a relay, this way the fuse or relay fails and the switch does not... a failed switch may short out and cause an electrical fire!
after you replace your stereo. install your own remote wire for the amp. you should find a couple of empty fuse locations marked "accessory" or "acc" in your fuse box. these are ignition controlled circuits and will only energize with the ignition switch in the "run" or "acc" positions.

On The Audio Control Epicenter I Decreased the Voltage From 12 volts to 2.5 volts. The Noise Decreased a whole lot, But the noise is still noticeable. What Could I Do!! IS IT The Epicenter Thats Causing the Problem?
Well the first thing is when you install a system to a factory deck it has really poor signal quality and can get interference very easilty from the other electrical in your car and the more aftermarket electronics you run increases this volnerabilty. The first thing you should do is make sure you have a really good pair of RCA cables with good noice reduction. Like Rockford fosgate, kicker or monstor cables. Cheap RCA cables have very little insulation and are volnerable to noice. Every. Try buying a better RCA converter and when you install it ground it. All of the converters come with a ground conections. Then you have to think of the product your running in your car. If you have cheap product this can cause it as well. Cheaper product has a high distortion ratio and very little technology for noise filtering. Be sure that you run all of your signal cables as far away from the power lines as possible even the remote wire.
