How do i make my Ipod work with my Kenwood stereo if i can't make it play sound even with the right cable?

I was given a Kenwood Mp435u car stereo for Christmas and hooked it up myself. It was the first time ever doing anything like this, so it's possible i made a wiring mistake, however everything else works fine, so i don't think that this is problem. I bought the IP200 cable that is nescesary to make it connect, but when i plug in both ports in the ipod and the USB into the USB stereo jack, i can get song ID's and control the ipod through the interface, but i can't get any sound. I even bought a second cable thinking the first might have been faulty. It didn't help. Any ideas?

Ok I would try these options...

Try using another type of iPod cable cause some maybe not be capable of powering the iPod and playing it from certain units that have USB hookup.

Also if your deck has auxilary ports on the back, you can buy a Y cable that connects into both red and white RCA cable to the unit to 1 plug at the other end to plug your iPod of other brand of MP3 player into the unit. But you can do this kind of tack the wire to somewhere convienent and discrete.

do any non ipod mp3 players work with car stereos with ipod interface?

My car stereo has an "iPod" interface, where you can plug your ipod into a usb port and control it through the head unit. I can't find a single non ipod mp3 player that says anything about being able to make use of this feature. I had an iPod nano and it crapped out on me after less than a year, so a more affordable alternative that has this ability would be great, since i basically just want to plug it into my car and forget it. Any suggestions?
Well reading the documents on my car stereo, I can also plug any usb flash drive and it will read any mp3's off of it, and i can control that through the head unit, it just doesn't work as smoothly as an ipod and it has to reload the drive every time i turn on the car...

Depending on what you mean by "crapped out" if it was less than one year, it may have been covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Anyway, an iPod interface is only for iPods. Many manufacturers are making accessories specificially for iPods because they are such big sellers. There are lots of things available for iPods that don't exist for any other players.
