some questions for subwoofer?

the speakers in my car are shot. submission of the subs sound effect? so I guess I'm saying is the subwoofer only amplify sound or are an independent speaker? also where and how it does connect. and what is better 2 10 "or 1 12"? They are also the brand better than generic? Thank you. What do you think would be better: 2 10 "Rockford Fosgate in a box or 12 1" pioneered a Qlogic box? I guess I have to fix my car speakers
